The Kijabe Hospital
The Kijabe Hospital is part of our practice’s overseas charity work. Kijabe is in the Great Rift Valley — two hours north of Nairobi in Kenya — and is a small town settled around the Rift Valley Academy.
The hospital was set up by the academy in 1908, and has since grown to become the second largest hospital in Kenya. The hospital building and larger campus accommodate approximately six thousand people, and its expansions have thus-far been unplanned and ad-hoc. The project involved a full rethink of the hospital campus, and saw a reorganisation of its entrances, connections, major ward locations, operating theatres, and technical back-up, resulting in a unified masterplan for the any future development. Our team included water and electrical engineers, hospital planners, architects, and landscape designers.
