St. James the Less

St. James The Less is a highly decorated Grade 1 listed Victorian-era church designed in the1840’s. The church is a vibrant centre to the community of Pimlico and caters for all people: regular events include open-door meals for the homeless, children’s clubs, church meetings, parties, and wedding receptions.

Although the church maintains much of its original layout, the adjacent schoolrooms - used for parish events and church offices - were poorly laid out and insensitively fitted into the original rooms of the parish school. Our masterplan for the church reorganised the main community spaces within the original school rooms, creating new meeting spaces, offices, and staff rooms, along with kitchen and toilet facilities. The design included the reorganisation of the public spaces in front of the entrance to the church, creating a central public space on the Lillington Gardens Estate between the church and the nearby pub.
