Sketches, Diagrams, and Process Work
The Adelaide Hotel
The Adelaide Hotel had been a famous Camden music venue from the 1960’s through to the 1980’s, but the building had been closed and the site redeveloped in the early 1990’s, with cafes, offices, and apartments.
Today, the site is under-developed, and fails to maximise the potential of it’s land-mark position at the entrance to the Chalk Farm area—sitting at a key node between Camden, Hampstead, and Swiss Cottage, and all within close proximity to Chalk Farm Underground Station. The masterplan aimed to develop the site in a way which respected the strong character of the famous Round House music venue opposite. In response to the low-scale massing of the Round House, our proposal envisioned a tower as a focal point with two lower building to the rear. A new public space would be created at the front to be shared with the Round House and strengthen the pubic realm.
